Baby Gift? A former boss within the same company is having a baby. I have been invited to the baby shower but am unable to attend because I don't have childcare for my own children. Is it considered rude to not get a gift for her? I am pretty tight with the holidays coming and have 3 close friends having babies in the next 2 months. My former boss and I have never been very close.

Etiquette rules for a baby gift for former boss? My husband and I really want to do something for his old manager and his wife who are expecting their first baby. This manager was fantastic and went out of his way to help our family, but we dont have the sort of relationship where we keep in touch. We see his manager once in a while and say hello in passing. Last night while I was at work(babies r us), he and his wife came in to pick up their new crib. We talked for almost 20 minutes and he asked many questions about how our daughter was doing and was clearly interested in how we were doing. We also talked a bit about their upcoming new arrival. This manager went so above and beyond to help my husband and our family while he was working there, and we really want to do something for them. They dont have a gift registry, but I make and sell diaper cakes so we were thinking of dropping one off to him at work (left at the security desk, not interfering with work). Is it appropriate?
