Wedding Gift? I'm in my Sister's wedding coming up in three weeks. I have helped her with the planning. My husband is playing the music for the wedding and dejaying the reception. I arrainged for my friend and myself to work the bar. Plus we're watching their baby while they're on their honeymoon. My Mother asked me to go with to to pick out a present for the wedding. I told her that my husband and I were not getting her a present because of everything we've already have done and will be doing. My Mother got upset and said I still had to get her a gift. So my question is what is the protocall in this situatution? Do I need to go out and buy a gift? I'm not complaining about how much work we've put into the wedding. I'm just wondering why my Mother thinks we need to get a gift.
What is the appropriate wedding gift if I did not attend the wedding? My friend and his wife got married in Europe and my husband and I could not go to the wedding. They were at our wedding two years ago and I have no idea what is the appropriate wedding gift? Do I give them half of what they gave us since they did not have to pay for us at their wedding? Should I send a check or get a few remaining items from their registry? I don't want to offend them but have no idea what I am supposed to spend, please help.
What wedding gift should I buy for my sister on her wedding? Hey all. My sister is getting married in a month from now and I want to buy her a wedding gift. I want it to be something really special, even if it's expensive, especially since there's a chance I might not be able to attend the wedding(unfortunately). Any one has any suggestions? Thank you
Is it okay to send a wedding gift to a couple before the wedding? My friends are getting married next month. They are going back to their hometown for the wedding, which is halfway across the country from where they live. I don't live in their hometown either. I wanted to give them a particularly large gift from their wedding registry. Is it okay to send it to them before the wedding? That way I won't have to travel with the large gift and they won't have to lug it back home after the wedding.
What is the best non-registry wedding gift you have received? What is a creative and non-registry gift other than cash that you have received for your wedding. I want to give something practical but unique. Fine china, crystal, bath towel, or kitchen appliances seem kind of boring. Note: I don't want to give anything sex related, just a nice awesome gift.
What is the best wine to give for a wedding gift? My wife and I do not drink wine. We are going to a wedding for some people who love wine. We were wondering what is the best type of wine to give for the wedding gift. We are hoping for a limit of $60 (what can I say, times are tough for us all). Thanks!
Must you give a wedding gift to a couple living together who has already eloped and has a reception? I have been invited to a wedding reception for a couple who eloped in Vegas. Prior to eloping, they were living together. Is it customary to give a gift if they already have everything they need for a life together? The invitation to the reception didn't specify. What do you think? I have always been told that gifts were for a couple to start their life together. There is no registry included in the inviation. When I go to a wedding, I always buy a gift from the registry. Do y'all really buy gifts for people on second and third marriages? Anyone know the etiquettes specifics on this?
What wedding gift when I have not much money? My partner's aunt is getting married and coz I am in his country and not my own I don't have much money due to spending it all on holidays and I want to get his aunt a gift for her wedding coming up. I don't want to get a gift with my partner, I want to get a personal gift myself. But I don't have much money to afford glass stuff but I am good at handicrafts. Anyone got any good ideas? Also whatever I get I don't want to make it look cheap.
What is the appropriate wedding gift for someone I barely know? I was invited to a co-worker's wedding (along with the rest of our 12-person office) and I really don't know this person very well. How should I handle the gift from my boyfriend and I in this situation? I don't think it would be fair to expect me to give as much of a cash gift as I would to a family member or close friend. She did not indicate in the invitation where she is registered. Should I ask? How should I go about that without sounding cheap?
What is the correct amount for a gift card or personal check as a wedding gift? My husband's co-worker is getting married. My husband is an attorney and works in a professional office. We are going to the ceremony and reception. I don't believe in the "pay for your plate" theory because I had a very fancy wedding (which cost my parents a bundle) and we never expected guests to pay for their plate via a gift or monetary amount. At that point they are not "guests." What would be a nice amount to give under the circumstances. I haven't been to a wedding in a few years and need some good info.
How do you tell wedding guests that you want money for your wedding gift? For our wedding we don't really want to register because we don't need anything since we have been living together for the past three years. But we would love to accept money as a gift to pay for the honeymoon or put towards a down payment on a house. How do you word in a invitation that we arn't registered but we want cash for our large expenses coming up? OK, since everyone is trashing me on the subject, I'm the Matron of honor on this one and I was asking the question for the bride. I dont mean how can I ask for money in a formal invitation, I mean it more like for the shower. I'm going to be sending out invitations for her shower which is going to be a jack and jill and they dont need physical gifts. And everyone is trashing on this subject like she and I are unclassy to think that asking for money is wrong. It's not like she wants to come out and say "I WANT MONEY" thats why we are asking, how should we got about this? So if your going to write your unclassy and things like that then dont respond. I've seen it before that people note that money is accepted for help with honeymoon and such, welcome to 2009 people!!! Thanks, just had to clear this one up for all you RUDE people that can't respond nicely even though you have a difference of opinon.
How much should you spend on a wedding gift? My friend got mad when her grooms step brother only spent about $30.00 on their wedding gift to them. She thinks you should spend the same amount of what the dinner costs per person. For example, if your whole family is invited, say 5 people, the dinner costs $20.00 per plate: 5 x 25.00= $125.00. I know if i had three kids to outfit for a wedding, plus any traveling expenses I probably could not quite afford a $125.00 gift. They also think a wedding is supposed to be a money making event. Plus how in the world are you supposed to know how much the bride & groom are paying per plate?!
What should I get as a wedding gift to a couple moving to the UK? A friend of mine is getting married within the month, and after the marriage, she and her husband will be moving to the UK. So any wedding gift I get will have to be small. I was thinking of a gift certificate, but I don't know any stores in the UK. Do you have any ideas for a gift certificate I could get that would be useful for a new couple moving to the UK? I would also probably have to buy it online, and I don't know exactly to what city they're moving to, so it would have to be a national chain.
Is money received as a wedding gift taxable? Recently got married with a significant number of wedding gifts given in the form of money totalling a decent amount. Is it taxable based on the total amount? Or is it based on the gift per individual?
What amount of money is appropriate to give for a wedding gift? My boss is having her wedding soon and I felt bad to decline because I was not going to attend her bridal shower. She didn't register because apparently its Chinese tradition to give money instead of gifts. I think anything less than $100 is inappropriate and rude for a wedding gift, but I feel $100 or more is too much for someone who I only work with. Any advice?
What is an appropriate wedding gift when you are traveling to a wedding overseas ? My husband and I are traveling to a my BIL wedding in Germany. We are paying for all the travel expances ourselves as well as paying for are own room and car rental. We were married in the states and paid for out of town guests to attend. He attensded alone and did not give us a wedding gift (??) My BIL is not paying for anything and we are paying out all this. I am thinking a $100.00 (euro) and calling it even. What do you think?
What should I write on the card when late giving a wedding gift? My husband and I are overdue on giving a wedding gift to our friends who got married over a year ago. I know, its terrible. But obviously we would still like to give them one especially before it gets any longer. How should we handle this situation? What should we say in the card that will be enclosed with the gift?! (We will not be delivering the gift in person, it will be mailed) Thanks for your help!!
Is it appropriate to give a wedding gift? I work in a small office and for the last couple of months, have worked with my boss and one other person. My boss is getting married and having a large wedding, and he often speaks about his plans. I was a little surprised not to be invited to his wedding (I don't know his fiancee) but I am not upset, and wish them well. Is it appropriate to get a gift, or a card, or both, for someone who has not invited you?
What was the most unusual, but practical wedding gift that you received? I'm just curious. We are getting married next Friday. When we went to get our license, we got a surprise. My fiance's cousin is the Recorder of Deeds at the courthouse where we had to go. When she noticed that we were there in her office to apply for the license, she ended up paying for it ($51) as a wedding gift to us. I thought that was really nice, and made an unusual, but practical gift.
How do you give a late wedding gift? I recently got a new job and a few weeks into it my coworker invited me to her wedding. I couldnt end up going, but I wanted to give her a gift. I decided to give just a small gift of champagne and maybe something else, but how do I approach her? We work in different rooms too so I just feel weird waltzing over to her and being like ," well, here you go." I also am weirded out when people open gifts of mine infront of me too. How do I give her the gift?
What is the appropriate amount of money to spend on a wedding gift? I'm a bridesmaid in the wedding of a close friend. I'm already spending a fair amount of money on the event ($500 plane ticket, $350 hotel, $40 engagement gift, $60 shoes). The bride genersouly paid for all the bridesmaid dresses. Also, if it's relevant, I'm a student and my annual income is $17,500. How much should I spend on the gift?
What kind of gift am I supposed to give at a wedding shower? I'm going to a wedding shower this weekend that I don't particularly want to go to for my cousin who I barely know and I don't know what I'm supposed to get her. Do I get her something off her gift registries at Kohls or Target or is that just for the wedding gifts? Help please! $15-25 is the perfect price to pay for me. She has some picture albums and frames on her registries that are about that price. Would that be a good choice?
What is the proper etiquette when giving a wedding gift? I have a friend whom I don't know that well but I see occasionally through friends of friends. This person just recently got married. I wasn't invited to the wedding and I didn't anticipate that I would be, but I heard that this person was going to get married through the "grape vine". We bumped into each other recently and it felt very akward. This person seemed to have expected something from me and I didn't anticipate this. I wanted to congratulate this person, but I didn't know how. It's not because I don't want to spend the money, nor do I dislike this person, but I just didn't think much of it. How can I make it up or should I feel guilty? I'm at the age where many people I know are starting to get married, but I never really dealt with this particular situation. I feel regretful that I didn't give this person a gift. Yet I don't know what is the proper way to send this person a gift or make it up? Any suggestions?
How do I approach the subject of giving a wedding gift at a destination wedding? We are having a destination wedding and have already been fielding questions from those invited regarding airfare, hotel, transportation. It seems that many people are either not able to come or they will be coming on a shoestring budget. We expressed to our guests that if they are unable to make it we completly understand and hope that they think of us on our special day. As we know it is an expense, should we put somewhere in the invite that a gift is not "required" or not needed. How do we include that information so as not to make anyone feel uncomfortable, whether they want to give or not give, it will be up to them and we are just happy to have them there. Thanks!
What is an acceptable amount to spend for a bridal shower and wedding gift when you are a bridesmaid? My Best friend asked me to be in her wedding which is happening in about 4 months. How much should I plan on spending for this. I make less then 20,000 a year and I am finical on my own. I have to buy a dress, shoes, pay for a the shower, contribute a gift for shower and wedding, Bach party, hotel stay, hair and makeup............... it just gets really expensive. I love my best friend, but I don't want to tap into mysavings during this economy. This is the first month that I haven't had to dip into my savings to pay my rent.
How much should I give as a wedding gift? A co-worker is getting married (whom I only know as an associate) and he invited the entire office to his wedding. I am away so cannot attend the wedding, but I feel like I should pitch in for a wedding present (the entire office is pitching in to buy a gift). I am Italian and am used to giving hundreds of dollars as a gift, but as this is a small Canadian wedding, I am not sure what an appropriate amount is? Is 40 dollars okay? (I am 21 and do not have a lot of money yet as I just started my career).
Is a shower gift and a wedding gift the same? I thought if you sent a gift for the shower then it also covered the wedding. My friend said that I also had to send a wedding present. Do I have to send two gifts for technically the same occasion?
What would be an unusual and personal wedding gift? My partner is going to get his good friend something off his wedding list but also wants to get something a bit special aswell because he's been a very good friend. They're going to Las Vegas for their honeymoon so we wondered if anyone knows of any sort of gift certificate type things that we could get so they can use them while they're there? Thanks
Can anyone recommend a good Vintage Port for a wedding gift? I want to give this as a wedding gift they can drink on their 10th or 20th anniversary. Every wine site I read is trying to sell their inventory and every description boasts how great this particular wine is. Anyone here have experience in this department? Something under $70 as it is not the only gift I am giving. Thank you!
What is the proper wedding gift giving etiquette for maid of honor? I am the maid of honor in my cousin's wedding, and am responsible for throwing her a shower. Natually, I've also spent hundreds on dress/shoes/etc and in lieu of a bachelorette party, we will be taking her to a play (her request). I want to do whatever is the right thing, but considering the hundreds I've already spent, how much of a gift is likely expected or proper?
What should I get my sister for her wedding gift? Hey guys I have to buy my 26 year old sister a wedding gift and I totally don't know what to get her. She has a very simple decor at home. Any ideas would be good. I am looking for something different and unique. Thanks
What would be a god wedding gift to give? It's my best friends wedding I'm the maid of honor they're registered at Walmart and target. I don't know what they need for their house so should I just give a gift certificate?
What wedding gift can I give to a nice person but who I am not close to? He is my date's best friend, and his wedding is approaching (in another country though, but he will back with his wife). Although I have not recd any formal invitation (nor do I think I will because we aren't that close), I still would like to gift him something from my side, just as a token. What kind of gift would be appropriate? And should I gift it before he leaves or after he gets back when he is with his wife?
What to say in a card when giving a wedding gift that is overdue? My husband and I are overdue on giving a wedding gift to our friends who got married about 14 months ago. Its actually my husband's friends so I was hoping he would take care of it but he never did, so now I am before it gets any longer. Obviously we are quite embarassed but I don't think we should necessiarily focus on that in the card, but rather still congratulate them. Perhaps say that we still fondly remember their wedding day?? We will not be delivering the gift in person, it will be mailed, and I would like to keep the card somewhat brief. How should we handle this situation? And, what should we say in the card? Thanks for your help!!
What to write on card when late giving a wedding gift? My husband and I are overdue on giving a wedding gift to our friends who got married over a year ago. I know, its terrible. What is an appropriate wedding gift to give from the sister of the bride? My sister is eloping in October. I am helping to pay for her shower, and I am also going in a spa gift certificate for her with two of her friends. I have also got her a few little things. So I dont know what to do exactly..........what is appropriate for the shower gift and what is for the wedding........ I guess I should have mentioned that she is having a wedding dinner when she comes back from eloping in Hawaii,my father is paying.
How much money is appropriate to give as a wedding gift? A friend invited me to her wedding but I declined the invitation. I'd still like to give her a gift, and I was thinking cash or a gift card... How much $$ is appropriate? Both her and I are in our early 20s and are students.
How much to give my good friend for his wedding gift? I'm 22, and in 2 weeks will be attending my friend's wedding along with my girlfriend. I'm in his wedding party and I've known him since high school. My question is how much is a good gift to give? I want to help him with his bills since they just moved in together and I was thinking that $250 is sufficient? I am also having to spend $200 on a hotel room and $160 on a tuxedo, so I'm not exactly swimming in cash right now....Suggestions please

I want it to be something decent and worth giving to her, but i certainly don't want to spend my entire pay on a wedding gift for a sister im not even that close too. What is a good wedding gift to mail to someone? I am unable to attend an old college friend's wedding because she lives in a different province and I don't have enough vacation time/money to go. I want to send her a wedding gift in the mail, though. What are some suggestions for gifts that are thoughtful, but fairly easy to mail?
Can an unframed, original painting still be an acceptable wedding gift? I have a wedding to attend on Saturday and I'm not going to go out and purchase a gift, at the same time I'm aware of etiquette and don't want to show up with nothing. I'm a painter (or at least was) and have about 50 original oil paintings. Would it be fine just to give them one of those (unframed)?
What wedding gift do I give to my college advisor? Me and him have become good friends the past 2 years and he's getting married now. I thought of giving him a wedding gift but don't know what. What kind of wedding gift do I give to a college advisor?
Do I need to give money if I bought the wedding gift? I just went to a bridal shower last week. I bought a gift to the bride as a bridal shower gift, however, everyone else has brought the wedding gift instead. I plan to buy something from her registry for her as a wedding gift, and I'm not sure if I still need to give her some money when I go to the wedding just to cover for the food? the bride-to-be opened the gift at the bridal shower so I realized everyone, except me, brought the wedding gifts.
How much money is appropriate to give for a wedding gift from two people? My boyfriend and I are going to the wedding of one of my work colleague's. I've known him for two years and we've hung out a few times outside of work. We're not super close, but I would consider him more than just an aquaintence. We want to give money and a card as a gift at the reception. How much is appropriate for my boyfriend and I to give them? Is $100 too much or too little? It's a big and expensive wedding. Does that make a difference? Any help is much appreciated!
What is an appropriate wedding gift for a couple that has lived together before marriage? They've lived together for almost three years. So they have all the basic things you need for your household. Normal gifts like toasters and towels don't seem right. What would be a good wedding gift? Any suggestions besides money? I hate giving money or gift cards as a gift. I hate receiving them as a gift. I think it's thoughtless and inconsiderate. I know some people like it better, but not me. Other suggestions please?
What kind of wedding gift could I send to a Japanese couple? During my junior year in college, I lived with her and her family when she was 11. Her mother and I still correspond every year and I'd like to send a nice gift. I never attended a wedding in Japan and don't know their etiquette as far as gifts go.
Can someone help me find a wedding gift for my two unique friends? My best friend is getting married this summer and I need to get a wedding gift. I have no idea what to get them. They are both very unique people. They both have tons of tattoos (they are planning their honeymoon at a tattoo convention), enjoy collecting toys, comic books and listening to music. They like science fiction and love animals. I really want to get them a gift that is for both of them, not just her. And being the best friend I want to make it personal, not just a traditional wedding gift. Can anyone help? I need an idea!
