boyfriend gift question?
his eighteenth birthday is coming up. we've been dating for seven months. i was going to get him a gas gift card, because gas prices are through the roof. but our friend, anne, told us that her parents are buying him a $200 gas card. sorry, but there is no way i can compete with that. so, should i buy him a gas card of lesser value, or try to compete with her $200 gift?

- Buy him a birthday card. If your together for another year, then I suggest wasting money on him. It's too soon to do so now.
- Don't get him a gas card. Think of something else. If you are short on cash make him a book of coupons with stuff like one free meal,a get out of trouble card,back rub. Stuff like that, I did that with my boyfriend and he loved it{especially the get out of trouble}
- First of all, please do not feel as if you have to "compete" with his parents gift! :O) A gift is a nice thought...and one that is appreciated no matter how great or small! And parents gifts SHOULD be a bit lavish, especially on such a milestone birthday! :O) (You should see the things I bestowed on my children's sweet 16, 18, and 21!) Personally, I think gift cards are lacking in thought...funny thing is, I love to receive them, but hate bestowing them on someone. Some ideas...most states are legal for lottery at 18...so how about buying him a stack of scratch off tickets to "try his luck at?" I did this for my daughter's friend, and she had a winner! Or if your states casinos are 18, buy him a bucket of gambling chips! These are just a couple of ideas to commensorate the milestone of the birthday! :O) If you still want to go with something to aid in the high cost of gas, maybe you could purchase some prepaid oil change cards, or a detail gift card which would allow him to get his car cleaned well? I think 7 months is definitely ok to get your BF a gift, and not just a card! :O)
- take a minute to think of some of the inside jokes you have. Then, think of something that symbolizes one of those inside jokes. For example, I used to tease a good friend of mine about her having hairy legs because I caught her one day when she was a little stubbly. So for fun, I bought her a really kickass Gillette razor blade and told her her problem was solved. She LOVED the thoughtfulness, but the great thing is she was also able to actually use it. Put some more thought into the gift, and if it's inexpensive, then you can always supplement it with a $25 or $50 gift card to make it more substantial.
- well do this buy him a gas card for the amount it would take for him to make X amount of trips to your house it shows how incredibly thoughtful you are that you put time into the idea so if i was doing it for say a best friend away at college that drive a ford car i would know/find out the gas milage soooooooooo 20 mpg she lives 60 miles away woudl be 3 gallons so there and back would be 6 gallons times how ever many trips time gas price 2 trips is 12 gallons 12X 3.59=43.08
- Buy him a completely different gift card. Don't compete that was a good heads up from your friend. Whatever amount of money you were going to spend on his gas card take that money and get him something you with he would like or like I said before a different gift card to a store he likes. Or one of those Visa gift cards or something.
