I make and sell gift baskets. I am interested in expanding to include wine and some food items… and maybe to sell online. I live in Ohio and was wondering what types of license(s) I would require to sell in state, and to ship to other states?

1. You do not need any license to sell & ship out of state. What you do need is the following, go to the city hall where you are based an apply for a business license cost is usually under $75 next go to a bank of your choice and open a business checking account if the business has a name other than your own such as a DBA (doing business as) the bank will advise the steps you need to take.and last but not least contact the State Board of Equalization in your state and apply for a seller permit that will allow you to buy wholesale and sale retail which means you will have to add sales tax to all items sold in your state but not out of state orders. If you indeed plan to expand you will also need to accept credit cards either in person or over the phone. Contact Sam's Club Merchant Seller Program, they have the lowest rates in town. To generate more local business get a booth in the local wedding shows and all the festivals in your area. And one other way to go big time is open your own store on Ebay where you will have a worldwide market.
