OMG,I used my visa gift card at the gas pump and they took more out,and I'm told they have to hold it.HELP ME?

Will they put it back on my card,,,have you or anyone heard of such a thing,,?I'm totally freaking out RIGHT NOW??

1. The "hold" will drop off in a few days. This is normal, but is why should never use a debit card at the pump. If you had gone inside and used it there, they wouldn't have put the hold on.
2. A visa gift card works like a debit card. When you swipe the card, they place a hold on a certain amount of funds (say $50). If you only used $20, the $30 remaning will be released in a day or two. So they didn't really take more out, they just placed a hold on the funds. The excess funds will be available in 1 to 2 days.
3. yes, it has happened to me on hotel charges,,it takes couple days but it will be givn back
4. They didn't "take it out", they put a hold on an amount to allow you to pump. Then they took out what you pumped. the hold won't be confirmed, so it will drop off in a few days. Nothing for you to worry about.
5. Absolutely normal. Even debit cards with do that sometimes whether it is only a dollar or I have seen them go as high as $70!
