Gift Ideas Faqs

What's a diabetes-friendly Father's Day (food) gift?

My father-in-law LOVES to eat and has diabetes. I know a food gift would make him happy, but I don't know what. Obviously, candy, fruit, even bread baskets are out. So what's left?? Should I drop the food idea and just get him something else? Thanks!

  1. heres a site that will help you choose a good food or recipe http://vgs.diabetes.org/recipe/index.jsp
  2. A gift is a wonderful thought! As a 19 year Type 1, I prefer not to receive food as a gift. Many of my diabetic friends feel the same way. Hope this helps!
  3. Wal-Mart sells 16-ounce bags of World Kitchens brand beef jerky for around $8.50. A 24 pack of Frigo string cheese sticks is around $5.00. Might also find some Hunts or Jello brand sugar-free (NOT no sugar added) pudding cups. Consider cutting up the jerky into smaller pieces and weighing out 1-ounce portions for consumption control. http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6996/df4xi7.jpg
  4. peanuts in a nice container would be nice...activia, and bananas are nice also....
